WHAT THE PROS SAY

Dodie Mazzuca, LPGA Tour, 2001, 2002, now living in Arizona:

“Growing up in Santa Cruz was such an amazing experience. Most of my childhood was spent on the golf course. We played spectacular golf courses, like Pasatiempo and De Laveaga, along with all the fantastic courses in Monterey and San Francisco. Aptos Par 3 was my starting point. What golf taught me was focus, work ethic, drive, and self-inquiry.

All golfers need a place to grow. Aptos Par 3 is a tremendous possibility for the community to provide an opportunity for people to develop their golf skills and life skills. Creating extraordinary people through the game of golf….What an exciting project!”

Ken Woods, Head Pro, Pasatiempo:

“We can bring back the course that meant so much to me as a young golfer.”

Tim Loustalot, Head Pro, De Laveaga:

“Even though my father was the head pro at De Laveaga, he felt that my brothers and I should play at the Aptos Par 3 before we played the 18-hole courses, to first learn to enjoy the game, and to enjoy a level of success we could not have found on the larger courses.”

Ryan Riopel, PGA, Soquel graduate who will be qualifying for the US Open this year:

“Do I remember Aptos Par 3? Come on now, Aptos Par 3 was the first course I ever played. I made my first birdie on the 8th hole and then made my second birdie on the 9th hole, right after.”

JESSE’S STORY

Jesse was not quite two when he decided he wanted to do what Grandpa Bob did. He first learned to hit golf balls in his grandparents’ yard. They loved to play golf.

When he was about seven Jesse started playing at the Aptos Par 3, with Grandpa Bob and Gramma Jane.

Now that Jesse is grown, Bob has passed on, and Jane’s knees have been replaced, when Jesse comes to visit his grandmother, he sometimes takes her to a par 3 course. It would be nice if they could return to the Aptos Par 3.
